About the Course
This recorded training is designed for Year 2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 teachers, Teaching Assistants and English Leaders who want to improve pupils’ editing skills, independence and writing outcomes. Allow up to 1 hour to complete this training, including time for professional discussion and reflection. The EEF guidance on improving literacy highlights the importance of a gradual release of responsibility, ensuring pupils move from guided support to confident independence. This approach can — and should — be applied to every stage of the writing process, including editing. This training shows how Editing Stations can be used as a practical, structured approach to: - Teach editing explicitly. - Support independence in writing. - Raise standards across KS2. Participants will explore: - How to use Editing Stations in the primary classroom to improve writing quality. - Practical strategies for making editing time purposeful, focused and effective. - How to scaffold editing through a gradual release of responsibility. - The language of critique and how to develop pupils as confident editing partners. - Ways to improve pupil talk, peer feedback and independence in writing. All strategies are classroom-ready, realistic and adaptable across Year 2–6.
