About the Course
This expert-led recorded training session is designed for all Primary teachers, Teaching Assistants, Headteachers and English Leaders. Please allow 1 hour to complete the training. Effective questioning sits at the heart of high-quality teaching. The questions adults ask can bridge the gap between teaching and learning, prompting pupils to think more deeply, make connections and develop secure understanding. When used well, questioning provides essential scaffolding for new learning and plays a critical role in improving reading comprehension and pupil progress. This focused session explores how purposeful questioning can move pupils beyond surface-level responses and support them to reach more advanced stages of thinking. Drawing on classroom practice and evidence-informed approaches, the training clarifies what effective questioning looks like in action. Participants will reflect on how the language and structure of questions influence pupils’ thinking and engagement, and will explore practical strategies that can be applied immediately in the classroom. This session will support participants to: - Understand how carefully planned questioning develops thinking and deepens comprehension. - Explore a range of question types that move pupils’ thinking forward and support progress. This training equips staff with practical, high-impact questioning strategies that strengthen teaching, improve reading comprehension and support more confident, thoughtful learners.
