About the Course
This live, expert-led online training day is designed for Primary Leadership Teams and all Primary teachers who want to place oracy at the heart of teaching and learning. As highlighted by Voice 21, oracy is a powerful driver of learning, equity and life chances. Now more than ever, schools need to teach pupils how to speak confidently, listen actively, think critically and articulate ideas with clarity and purpose. High-quality oracy provision enables pupils to engage deeply with learning, challenge ideas respectfully and succeed both in school and beyond. This training draws on current research, Ofsted guidance and evidence-informed practice to explore what excellence in oracy looks like in the primary classroom. Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to teach oracy explicitly and systematically, rather than leaving it to chance. The day balances strategic thinking with practical classroom application, supporting both classroom practice and whole-school development. Participants will explore how oracy can be embedded across the curriculum, with a particular focus on strengthening reading and writing outcomes within English. During the training, participants will: - Explore the latest research into effective oracy teaching - Reflect on Ofsted’s recommendations for oracy in primary schools - Develop practical approaches to teaching the Four Strands of Oracy - Examine how oracy can be applied purposefully within the English curriculum - Learn a range of techniques including drama, group discussion, Book Talk and active listening - Consider how to embed oracy across the wider curriculum - Review approaches to assessing oracy effectively - Evaluate current provision and create an action plan for classroom or whole-school implementation - Access a range of high-quality resources to support oracy teaching This training equips schools with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools needed to embed oracy effectively, ensuring pupils develop the communication skills essential for learning, life and future success.
