About the Course
This live online day is aimed at Primary Leadership Teams and all Primary teachers. ‘In school, oracy is a powerful tool for learning; by teaching students to become more effective speakers and listeners we empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them. It is also a route to social mobility, empowering all students, not just some, to find their voice to succeed in school and life.’ Voice 21 Now more than ever, explicit teaching of oracy is of the utmost importance in the primary classroom. We need our pupils to have the confidence to ask questions, to articulate ideas and to formulate powerful arguments. It is imperative that our young people can listen actively, consider ideas critically and challenge other viewpoints courteously. Securing these skills is essential to enable all young people to make sense of their world, communicate effectively and become happy, successful members of society. This training day will: - Consider the latest research into how to achieve excellence in the teaching of oracy. - Reflect on Ofsted’s latest recommendations for the teaching of oracy in primary schools. - Share practical approaches to teaching the Four Strands of Oracy. - Review how to apply oracy effectively within the English curriculum to maximise progress in reading and writing. - Examine techniques for teaching and applying oracy including a wealth of drama strategies, group discussion, Book Talk and active listening. - Consider how to embed oracy techniques to maximise progress across the curriculum. - Signpost schools to a wide range of high quality resources to support the teaching of oracy. - Reflect on effective assessment of oracy. - Explore how to evaluate your current provision and practice and create an action plan for embedding oracy in your classroom or across the school.
