About the Course

This training is a recording of a live event and is suitable for all KS1 and KS2 teachers and Teaching Assistants. Please allow 2 hours for this training. Guided reading is an instructional approach where teachers support a small group of pupils to read a text independently. This training session examines best practice in Guided Reading, unpicking what really makes the difference to ensure maximum impact on pupil progress. This training will examine: - Choosing the right texts for Guided Reading.  - Timetabling and effective organisation of group reading. - The teaching sequence for Guided Reading and why this sequence       is  effective for planning group reading sessions. - A KS1 and KS2 classroom example. - The role of assessment in targeting teaching within Guided Reading. - The role of questioning and 'alternatives to questioning' in promoting comprehension. We will reflect on active strategies for teaching.
