About the Course
This expert-led session is designed for all teachers and TAs from Reception to Year 6 and supports schools to strengthen writing outcomes through a clear, consistent approach. Effective writing is rooted in strong oral composition. Storytelling and Talking the Text give pupils repeated, meaningful opportunities to rehearse language, structure ideas and internalise text patterns before they write. This approach builds confidence, enriches vocabulary and significantly improves the quality, fluency and independence of pupils’ writing across the primary phase. This training builds a strong understanding of Storytelling and Talking the Text for both fiction and non-fiction writing, showing how these approaches underpin high-quality planning and purposeful writing. The session includes a clear focus on what effective practice looks like in the classroom drawing on the experiences of successful schools. The session will examine: -How to launch a writing unit successfully, including how to select or create a powerful key text that drives engagement and purpose. - An effective teaching sequence. -How drama can be used strategically to deepen understanding, enrich vocabulary and increase pupil motivation. - Practical strategies for learning the text. - Guidance on how to use the classroom environment purposefully to support independence, recall and sustained writing. This training provides expert guidance, practical strategies and classroom-ready approaches that can be applied immediately to improve writing provision and outcomes across the primary phase.
